Are sterile neutrinos consistent with clusters, the CMB and MOND?

چکیده

If a single sterile neutrino exists such that mνs ∼ 11eV , it can serendipitously solve all outstanding issues of the Modified Newtonian Dynamics. With it one can explain the dark matter of galaxy clusters without influencing individual galaxies, match the angular power spectrum of the cosmic microwave background and potentially fit the matter power spectrum. This model is flat with Ωνs ∼ 0.23 and the usual baryonic and dark energy components, thus the Universe has the same expansion history as the ΛCDM model and only differs at the galactic scale where the Modified Dynamics outperforms ΛCDM significantly.

Equilibrium configurations of 11 eV sterile neutrinos in MONDian galaxy clusters

Modified Newtonian Dynamics (MOND) can fit a broad range of galaxy kinematic data, but struggles with clusters of galaxies. MONDian clusters need dark matter, and here we test the 11 eV/c sterile neutrino used to fit the first three acoustic peaks of the cosmic microwave background by investigating their equilibrium distributions in 30 groups and clusters over a wide range of temperatures. We d...

MOND plus classical neutrinos are not enough for cluster lensing

Clusters of galaxies offer a robust test bed for probing the nature of dark matter that is insensitive to the assumption of the gravity theories. Both Modified Newtonian Dynamics (MOND) and General Relativity (GR) would require similar amounts of non-baryonic matter in clusters as MOND boosts the gravity only mildly on cluster scales. Gravitational lensing allows us to estimate the enclosed mas...

Reinterpreting MOND: coupling of Einsteinian gravity and spin of cosmic neutrinos?

Several rare coincidences of scales in standard particle physics are needed to explain (i) why neutrinos have mass, (ii) why the negative pressure of the cosmological dark energy (DE) coincides with the positive pressure of random motion of dark matter (DM) in bright galaxies, (iii) why Dark Matter in galaxies seems to have a finite phase-space density, and to follow the Tully-Fisher-Milgrom re...

X-ray Group and cluster mass profiles in MOND: Unexplained mass on the group scale

We investigate the mass profiles of clusters in MOND for a sample of galaxy groups and clusters with temperatures ranging from 0.7 to 8.9 keV. We confirm that a huge hidden mass component, about 1.5 to 4 times more massive than the total visible mass (at the last measured radii, dropping thereafter), is needed to account for the hydrostatic equilibrium of these clusters. For the massive systems...

The Wedding of Modified Dynamics and Non-exotic Dark Matter in Galaxy Clusters

We summarize the status of Modified Newtonian Dynamics (MOND) in galaxy clusters. The observed acceleration is typically larger than the acceleration threshold of MOND in the central regions, implying that some dark matter is necessary to explain the mass discrepancy there. A plausible resolution of this issue is that the unseen mass in MOND is in the form of ordinary neutrinos with masses just...
